Street Fighter returns to the big screen with a bold new live-action adaptation of one of the most iconic video game franchises ever created. Bison. Bison. Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the filmmaker behind the chaotic comedy Bad Trip, the movie promises a colourful, high-energy take on the tournament that has thrilled gaming fans for decades. Of course, any new Street Fighter film inevitably lives in the shadow of the infamous 1994 version, a movie that has become a cult classic for all the wrong?and occasionally right?reasons. That film featured Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Kylie Minogue as Cammy and the legendary Raul Julia delivering a gloriously over-the-top performance as M. Bison. The new movie looks determined to embrace the fun while delivering the kind of high-octane action fans have always imagined, with the first trailer showing dazzling fight choreography, vibrant costumes and arena battles ripped straight from the games. There may be no Van Damme and no Kylie Minogue this time, but the new Street Fighter looks like it might finally deliver the fast, colourful martial arts spectacle the franchise deserves.
