Super Troopers 3 sees the return of the most incompetent highway patrol officers in America, continuing a comedy franchise that has become one of the most unlikely cult success stories in modern cinema. The original Super Troopers arrived in 2001, created by comedy troupe Broken Lizard-Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske and Paul Soter-and quickly built a devoted following thanks to its absurd humour, endlessly quotable dialogue and ridiculous police antics.
Although it was only a modest box-office performer on release, the film exploded in popularity through DVD and late-night screenings, eventually becoming a bona fide cult classic. That fan loyalty was proven spectacularly in 2015, when Broken Lizard launched a crowdfunding campaign to make Super Troopers 2-raising over $4.5 million in just 24 hours, at the time one of the fastest-funded movie campaigns ever.
Now the moustached lawmen are back once again, with Jay Chandrasekhar returning to direct and the entire Broken Lizard team reprising their roles as the hilariously unprofessional Vermont State Troopers. Over the years the franchise has endured because of its unique blend of outrageous pranks, ridiculous authority figures and the chemistry between the comedy troupe themselves, who have continued making films together for more than two decades. With fans still quoting lines from the original film more than twenty years later.
Super Troopers 3 promises more highway chaos, more ridiculous investigations and plenty of the absurd humour that has kept this unlikely comedy franchise alive for a generation.
